Second instance of a research on augmented reality, but this time hands-on with a camera, AR-markers and some code.
The decisive frontier for Augmented Reality lies in creating a single, universally accessible digital layer extending over the manufactured environment. While you could disseminate relevant contextual information (think wayfinding system, infos about a monument etc…), or digitally augment things as a purely narrative or esthetic exercise, or create ads… Lots of ads. There is also the question of things we value for purely symbolic, ritualistic, or sentimental reasons. Assuming such a universal "Overlay" could exist, we imagined how futile objects could exist only digitally and went out disseminating digital idols throughout the Parisian greyscape — a great opportunity to try our hands at some basic AR prototyping.
